An unemployed Manoj (alias Manu) is told by his mother that they need some money for his sister's forthcoming marriage, and he sets out to find some. For this purpose, he visits his former Calcutta-based girlfriend, Neerj alias Neeru, whom he was to marry, but who preferred to marry someone wealthier, in Calcutta. He rings the doorbell, and the door is answered by Neerja herself, and he is invited inside. They talk and update each other on their lives. Neerja puts on Manoj's raincoat, so she could go out and buy something to cook for him. She warns him not to open the door nor let anyone in. After Neerja leaves a man knocks on the door, and requests entry into the house to use the toilet. Manoj opens the door and lets the male use the facilities. When this male finishes his business, he refuses to leave, and sits and talks with Manoj. It is during this conversation that Manoj finds out the stark truth behind Neerja, her husband, and their married life.

A gang of bikers headed by the cool-headed and arrogant Kabir is on a robbing spree in Mumbai. They rob establishments and then zip away on their superbikes. ACP Jai Dixit is the case in-charge and he recruits a bumbling bike mechanic and racer named Ali to chase the gang on a bike and help Jai nab them. Kabir accepts the challenge, and pulls off another robbery amidst a function. This causes Jai and Ali to call it off. Jai resigns from the police force and Ali goes back to his daily job. Meanwhile Kabir has lost one of his team members and recruits Ali for their final job in Goa. The action shifts from the congested Mumbai traffic to the sunny Goa for the final showdown between cops and robbers.

Jailer Lankeshwar is suspected of corruption and illegal weapons trading. He uses some of the jailed convicts to act as hit men for a fee, by allowing them to leave the jail, carry out their job, and then be back with a perfect alibi. When ACP Amar Agnihotri gets to know, he proposes to the Minister to permit a police inspector to pose as a convict to gain access into a prison to investigate its warden. Arjun Singh, a dashing and upright police officer is selected for the job. Amar and his superiors contrive a plan wherein Arjun will shoot Amar down with a blank bullet, and then abscond. This goes according to plan, and Arjun is apprehended and held for court. He pleads guilty, and is sentenced to Lankeshwar's jail. While in jail, Arjun finds out that Amar has been killed, and he has become a convict for real.
Bombay-based Anjali Aggarwal lives a wealthy lifestyle with her mom, Asha, and dad, Ajit, who is the owner of Aggarwal Industries. When Asha challenges Ajit that she can run the business better, he accepts the challenge, and Asha is determined to do better than him. Her plan is to expand into a small island called Manjira located in the Indian Ocean off of Lakhwadeep Islands, and build a factory there. She finds out that the island natives are opposed to any construction of any kind. She decides to send her to-be son-in-law, Shekhar Panchotia, but when he meets with an accident, Anjali goes in his place, flies Uncle D'Silva's plane, films a murder by Gwana and his men, crash-lands, is rescued by Kishan Khanna alias Captain and returned safely to her worried parents, who are grateful to Kishan and they invite him to visit them in Bombay. Kishan does accept their invitation and goes to visit them.

The story is set in a rural area around Madurai. The village is called Parithiyur where Paruthiveeran (literally meaning "the hero of Paruthi") lives with his doting uncle (Saravanan). Paruthi means cotton in Tamil. The village in reality is quite famous for the sun temple in south India.
He is a bully and leads a care-free life. Muthazhagu (Priyamani) loves him more than her life, but he remains unmoved and keeps her at bay. At times he is violent too. When he understands her true love for him and decides to marry her, the feud between the two families comes in the way. Determined as he is to possess her, he warns her against marrying someone of her parents' choice. He even threatens to cut her into pieces. Undeterred by his threats, her parents press ahead with the preparations for her marriage with a man of their choice. Finally they decide to elope together. They are found by her father and they eventually die at the end of the movie.

Vijay Singh Rajput (Amitabh Bachchan) is a quirky manager of Vilasrao Jefferson Bank. He is extremely strict at work and believes in pushing his workers to the limit. This means that his superiors hold him in high regard for his unblemished reputation and excellent track record. But things go terribly wrong for the honest bank manager when he finds one of his own employees trying to con the customers. At this, he loses his temper and gets physical with the employee. This doesn't go down well with his superiors and they decide that Rajput is now a liability to the bank and they sack him. Amitabh can't believe the Board of Directors and his mind is filled with revenge and what better revenge than robbing the bank himself, ironic as it may sound. He decides that he must think of a plan that will hit the bank where it hurts the most - in its safe where all the money is kept. Rajput blackmails Neha (Sushmita Sen) to use her professional skills to help his plan.

Her family rushes to the hospital and finding Raj there, assumes that he is Pooja's husband, Romi, with whom she had eloped and whom they had never met. Pooja, who is comatose, cannot correct them; Raj, who could prefers not to. As the family gets to know the pretend Romi, Pooja's best friend, Jahnvi (Preity Zinta) soon starts spending a lot of time with him. Nandu (Mahesh Babu), an orphan, is a top-notch professional killer in town. He maneuvers his operations with the help of his buddy (Sonu Sood). Two young Indians, a male named Jatin, and a woman named Karishma, meet on an airplane, who is on it's way to India. Jatin is returning home to get married to a woman named Jaya, who has been chosen for him by his mother. Karishma is also returning to India to get married to an Indian named Nimesh. Who will Raj's object of hatred turn out to be? 

Vishwanath and Kalicharan are neighbors and close friends. They would like to get their children married, and thus strenghten their friendship into a relationship. But their children, Vishal and Priyanka, are quarrelsome, and not even friendly to each other, even though they are told that they will be getting married in the near future. Police Inspector Shekhar Kapoor's only mission in life is to end the atrocities of underworld don Zaka and his son Shaka. In course of his investigations he bumps into a small-time criminal Johnny. But as it turns out Johnny reveals that he is actually police inspector Ravi Saxena, a cop from Delhi. And that he has sneaked into Zaka's team in the guise of Johnny only to destroy them.
